The Story of Gawande Masala Stores
Ever
wondered how do start-ups come into existence? And where they get their
inspirations from? There are several success stories around the world, but
today we are going to dive deeper into the story of Gawande Masala Stores right
from the horse’s mouth. We
had the privilege of talking to the owner of the Gawande Masala Stores – Monika
and Rajesh Gawande. While talking to them, we realized it’s not just the new
era infected with the start-ups and entrepreneurship virus, but it’s been
running in our veins for ages. As per Mr. and Mrs. Gawande, the owner of the
idea and concept of the masala shop goes to their mother. Although
it was Rajesh’s dad's wish to open a business or a shop of their own, it was
Rajesh’s mother who came up with the domain and USP of the shop.Mr. Gawande
tells us how his mother came up with the idea of not only opening a shop to grind
masalas but also provide a unique masala of their own and share it with the
world. Rajesh
also shared the details of all the hardships they had to face while setting up
their business like lack of decent space (as the requirements are too specific
for operating the large grinding machines). And it was nearly impossible to
carry out the store in the slums of Mankhurd/Govandi where the vibration,
noise, and constant visits from BMC (due to lack of license) caused havoc on
their business. But somehow, they managed to leave all those things behind and
now are well settled to carry forward their businesses in the Mahakali caves
area of Andheri East.
When
asked Mr. and Mrs. Gawande about what message they would like to give to the
budding generation of entrepreneurs, they unitedly stood by the concept of
building trust and brand instead of looking for profit margins. According to
them, that’s the only way to take your business to next level and through
generations. Or else, your business will just remain a desperate move to get
some source of income for a few years to come. Written by Connect People Work [CPWWORLD]
